New owners of the former Manor Court old people's home at Darton have made a heart-rending find.

Staff at Tier Daycare, which is turning the building into a care centre for old folk and dementia sufferers, have found scores of photographs of residents of Manor Court and some of their relatives.

The discovery includes photographs and memorabilia of Johnny Steele, manager of Barnsley Football Club in the 1960s and early 1970s, who was a resident of the home on Churchfield Lane.

Tier Daycare co-director Alison Baranyai said the pictures were found in one of the rooms, drawers and a former staff room.

She said: "We would like to give these pictures back to the families of residents. We cannot just bin them. We have hit a bit of a brick wall trying to find out where residents moved to when Manor Court was shut down more than four years ago. It closed quite quickly."
