Nurses at Barnsley Hospital have put their knitting needles to good use by making a nativity scene in celebration of the hospital chaplain's 25 years in the priesthood.

Jane Parker, Shara Mortimer, Sandra Cheetham and Katie Avill-Griffiths created the scene in only 60 hours with the help of a family member of one of the team who did all the knitting.

Jane, the lead nurse said, "We couldn't have done it without the help of our volunteer."

Chaplain Father Peter Needham is said to be "friendly, warm and always happy to listen."

He was presented the nativity scene this week, and said: "I am overwhelmed by this gesture and I lovingly accept it with great thanks."

The scene now stands proudly in the hospital's chapel.
