ALTON Towers smash victims Leah Washington and Joe Pugh are staying strong in the face of online trolls targeting the couple with sick comments.

The couple were among those who suffered severe injuries on The Smiler rollercoaster ride on June 2.

Leah had to have her left leg amputated following the crash and Joe was left with smashed kneecaps.

Comments such as prepared to ‘lose a leg for £1m’ (a reference to compensation for her injuries) have been sent to Leah, along with people telling her they cannot wait for the ride to reopen.

Joe regularly gets comments like ‘going out this weekend to get more smashed than Joe Pugh’s kneecaps’.
