A LONELY pensioner was conned out of about £900 by a woman he met on a dating website.

David Padgett last saw the woman he knows only as Janet on Valentine’s day. He gave her £60 to ‘buy herself something nice’ on a shopping trip in the Lancashire town of Nelson where they had met up.

“She told me to ‘wait there’ while she wet off to buy something,” said David, 67, of Hoyland. “I waited three hours, but she never came back.”

Over several months and several meetings, David had given her money dozens of times, but usually just £5 or £10 at a time. They would speak on the phone and David would end up going to the bank to pay cash into her account.
