WITHIN two weeks of opening, Penistone’s 24-hour public lavatories have been closed at night amid problems with drug-fuelled youths as police have promised to work with politicians to address the town’s “perceived” issues with substance abuse.
The toilets, which took years to complete, were vandalised five days after opening and now councillors have decided to close them overnight - and all day on Sundays - because of increased problems.
They have blamed a group of youths for causing problems and say they left behind the tell-tale odour of cannabis.
Penistone Town Council said it was “with deep regret” the decision to close the lavatories from 8pm until 7am had been taken.
