YOUNG robot builders have returned home after a whirlwind competition trip to the USA.

The Ellis primary school’s All Star team from Brampton won the VEX IQ challenge competition in March, which saw pupils have the chance to compete in the VEX World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky.

They made history by being the first primary school level team to be awarded the excellence award, the commendation which earned them their spot on the world stage.

The original team comprised of Kristian Alexander Eaves, nine, Alfie Bashforth, Matthew Wentworth Chambers, Dylan Rhys and Lillie Travers, but Lillie was unable to make the trip to the US.

They have just returned from the competition, which saw them design, build and operate their own robot and make it carry out a series of tasks while working alongside another team.
