A FITNESS fanatic who won six months of free gym membership has traded his winnings into donations for charity.

Every month the Metrodome hosts a number of different gym challenges for members to take part in, these are things like the most number of press ups in a minute and the fastest time to row 500m with the winner getting a month’s gym free membership.

Simeon Evershed, of Meadow View, Lundwood, won a total of six months free, but instead of taking the prize he asked for the money equivalent to be donated to the Sheffield charity, St Luke’s Hospice.

Simeon said: “I wanted to raise money for St Luke’s as my work colleague has a very strong personal connection with them.

“The fact the money is going to a good cause has made me want to push myself and raise even more money for a number of charities.

“Next time I’ll be focusing my efforts fundraising for Barnsley Hospice.

“This also motivates me to work harder during these monthly competitions and challenges as I want to do well for these hardworking charities.”

Mike Cutts, who is the manager at Barnsley Metrodome said: “Being a charity ourselves we jumped at the chance when Simeon approached us with his idea about how we could support him to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice.”

The money that has been raised for the hospice will go towards giving free palliative care to people with terminal illnesses in Sheffield.
