THE friend of a teenage girl who was struck down by a mystery virus which left her paralysed and wheelchair-bound is spending a week in a wheelchair to see how the illness has changed her pal’s life.

Maisie Graham, 15, collapsed at Horizon Community College last year complaining of backache and a tingling sensation in her legs.

She spent several weeks in Sheffield Children’s Hospital where she was diagnosed with transverse myelitis (TM) - a rare neurological disorder caused by inflammation of the spinal chord.

She had been a keen rugby player but was left paralysed and remains in a wheelchair.
