SIMON Cowell's TV talent shows are bad for working men's clubs because acts think they can get instant stardom according to a local stalwart.

Ken Green, general secretary of the Club and Institute Union (CIU) says young entertainers think they can get instant stardom on programmes like The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent and are ignoring the traditional route to stardom and pricing themselves out of a shrinking market.

Said Ken; "In the old days a comedians like Les Dawson and Bobby Knutt came up through the clubs and they might only make £5 a night while they learned their trade.

"Now we have mediocre acts who think they deserve top money."
