POLICE are investigating a spate of burglaries targeting Barnsley businesses in recent weeks.

South Yorkshire Police said they are aware of the recent ‘series’ of burglaries of shops, business premises and hair salons across town.

Two men, aged 35 and 38, were arrested in connection to recent cases but have been released ‘while investigations continue’.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Our local neighbourhood policing teams are reviewing all of the reported offences and investigations are underway to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

“Anyone with information which may assist enquiries is encouraged to report it to police by calling 101.

“Alternatively, you can stay completely anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers via their website crimestoppers-uk.org, or by calling their UK contact centre on 0800 555 111.”
