Welsh international Lewin Nyatanga has returned to Barnsley on a two-year contract for what will be his fourth spell with the club.

The 24-year-old centre-back went on loan to the Reds three times from hometown club Derby County in 2007 and 2008. He then spent four seasons at Bristol City but left after their relegation earlier this year.

Nyatanga told the Chronicle: "The manager was in constant contact with my agent, then they (Barnsley) went away for a pre-season trip but when they came back they rang to ask if I was interested in coming and I said 'definitely'.

"I have very fond memories of my last time at Barnsley and I saw the form that they were in from January onwards last season.

"There's good things happening here and I have been impressed by the manager's vision."
