DENTISTS in Barnsley unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in the General Dental Council, which regulates the profession.

For the first time in the history of the General Dental Council (GDC), a special conference was held last Friday which was attended by more than 200 dentists and dental professionals who feel the regulator has failed the profession and patients.

They are opposed to the GDC's plans to increase its compulsory annual registration fee for dentists from £576 to £945, fearing it will lead to reduced access to NHS dental services, as well as driving up the cost of private treatments.
