ALMOST 600 people have given their views on proposals to close up to ten children's centres and create a network of Family Centres.

Barnsley Council is facing unprecedented levels of budget reductions, having to save £28m alone in the next two years. This means that it cannot continue to deliver the current children's centre model.

By April 2016 it is has to save £2.5 million in this service delivery area, which is almost a 40 per cent reduction in the overall budget.

A council spokesman said the implications of the proposal are a potential reduction in the number of centres.
