IT’S A SWEET retirement for two residents in Ward Green Lodge.

Mary Wright, 83, worked at Brady Webster’s sweet shop, on Sheffield Road, for decades from the 60s until the 80s.

And 80-year-old Celia Senior owned B and C Senior at Snydale Road, Cudworth, from January 1969 until March 2006.

The two ladies now live at Ward Green Lodge but they haven’t given up the old trade.

Instead, as part of the home’s Pimp My Zimmer initative, they have decked out their zimmer frames and will be serving the 66 residents every Friday.

One frame has the sweets, the other has the old-style weighing scales to make sure everyone gets a fair portion.

And classics from Yorkshire Mixture to rhubarb and custard sweets are on the menu.

Ward Green Lodge activities co-ordinator Amanda Laycock said: “Every Friday they will go around and serve residents as kind of their job within the home. They are loving it and the scales are actually Celia’s own from when she ran the shop, which her son brought in.

“They came here thinking they were going to retire but we have put them back to work again.”

The zimmers have been modified as part of the Pimp My Zimmer project at the home, with the designs thought up by pupils from nearby Ward Green Primary school.

“This is now our very own mobile sweet shop,” said Amanda.
