A MAJOR crackdown to tackle a surge in antisocial behaviour blighting Barnsley town centre and outlying residential areas will begin in March, according to proposals going before the council’s cabinet on Wednesday.

A public consultation has been held into whether to enact a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) across the whole of the town centre and residential streets off Park Road, Sheffield Road, Cemetery Road and Doncaster Road. It would also cover streets between Harborough Hill Road and Old Mill Lane and Summer Lane and Victoria Road.

The results of the consultation will be discussed at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, with the recommendation to bring in the order from March 1.
