THE next steps in transforming Grimethorpe Hall into a potential homeless veterans’ shelter are being taken by the steering group behind the ambitious project.

The building has been derelict for decades but work is being done by the newly-formed Grimethorpe Hall Community Interest Company in a bid to inject a new lease of life - and purpose - into the 346-year-old hall which has been left to rot in recent decades.

A spokesman from the group said: “After many years of neglect the building requires extensive repairs and renovation. The CIC aims to not just renovate the hall but to make it self-sustaining and inspirational. Our focus is to use the building to provide a home for veterans.

“To make this happen, we have formed relationships with three veterans’ groups including Veterans UK, UK Veterans One Voice and The Veterans’ Association. All these are keen to be involved in the project and will bring different skills and expertise.”
