'NIGHTMARE' police cuts will put every man, woman and child in Barnsley at risk.

The stark warning came from Neil Bowles, chairman of the South Yorkshire branch of the Police Federation, as it launched its #CutsHaveConsequences campaign.

The federation, which represents bobbies on the beat in South Yorkshire, has called on the public to raise the importance of a properly-funded police service.

Mr Bowles said: "The public pay for policing - but they are being short-changed."

The budget cuts have resulted in road officer numbers dropping from 150 to 90 and the cold case review team, which investigates unsolved murders and rapes, being disbanded.
