A MAN who spent weeks in Barnsley Hospital after breaking 27 bones in a car crash is raising money for the hospital charity as a thank you.

James Logan, 27, of Lundwood, suffered the injuries aged 22 when he was involved in a car crash in Hemsworth on December 18, 2013. He was initially airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary. He spent more than six weeks in hospital.

He said: “I was transferred to Barnsley Hospital on Christmas Eve so I was nearer to family and friends. I woke up on Christmas morning back then on Ward 32. Over the next weeks I had rehabilitation, hydrotherapy and neurological therapy lasting for around 18 months. I was very lucky.”

James is an accounts manager for the S2S Group based at Manvers Way, Wath-upon-Dearne. It is a specialist in IT and mobile phone recycling and now James and his director Brian Watts have come up with a plan to raise funds for Barnsley Hospital Charity as a way of saying thank you.

They are going to visit the outpatients department in the hospital on Thursday January 17 and invite patients, businesses and the public to donate any unwanted/broken mobile phones, tablets and/or laptops. Then ‘110 per cent’ of all proceeds for the devices handed in will go to the hospital charity.

Raffle tickets will also be on sale for £1 and the proceeds of the raffle will go to the Barnsley Hospital Charity and the winning ticket will receive an iPhone.

James explained: “An iPhone 6 in working condition will bring in up to £55 and an iPhone 6 which is deemed faulty will bring in up to £20. The difference between other recyclers and us is that on this fundraiser S2S will donate 110 per cent of the device’s value. For example, the iPhone 6 on this scheme would bring in up to £60 for a working device and up to £22 for faulty devices.

“We have to be realistic and if we are aiming to raise as much funds as possible for the charity old devices such as Nokias and Blackberries won’t bring in any monetary value for the charity although will be disposed of appropriately.”

James added: “By recycling your device you are not only being eco-friendly but are also ensuring that your data is protected.

“Each device brought to us will go through a certified data erasure process to eliminate all sensitive information.”
