Time could soon be called on a Barnsley market watch and clock repair stall which has been going for 34 years.

Carol Barraclough, 57, who has been running the business upstairs in the market hall for the past nine years, is having to give it up to be a full-time carer for her dad Dennis Fawcett, 84.

He originally started the business, now called 'D Fawcett and daughter Carol,' and ran it with his wife Joan. Over the years, his family, including his grandchildren, have all helped out but none want to take it on full-time.

After Dennis had a fall recently and became increasingly frail and unwell, Carol, of Woodstock Road, Wilthorpe, decided she needed to look after him full-time at his home in Smithies.

She said: "I was very sad and emotional when I first realised that I would have to give up the stall but dad wants me to look after him. He needs regular medication and hospital visits and I can't leave him."

She is now looking for someone to take over the stall which sells items like watch straps and batteries and does clock repairs.

If no-one comes forward, the business - which operates on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and sometimes Tuesdays - will go back to the council and be put out to tender.

Carol said: "The stall has been going for so long and has a lot of goodwill. It still has customers who remember me when I was a kid first helping out there. It would be a good opportunity for someone in the same business."

She has now called in some help on the stall until someone is found to take it over.
