A FILTHY town centre car park that is a den for drinkers and druggies and used for car races will be ‘shut’ by police - meaning anyone not supposed to be there could face court action.
Magistrates yesterday approved a request by South Yorkshire Police to close privately-owned Peel Parade multi-storey car park to anyone not using it legitimately, such as to visit the Lifestyle gym above, the town centre or nearby businesses.
The force made the closure notice application following a catalogue of problems at the car park, telling the court there had been 46 incidents since last October including drug taking, street drinking, racial abuse, youths throwing stones at business owners and drag racing.
