Daniel Stendel said Barnsley’s players were ‘very dissatisfied’ despite coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Oxford United on Tuesday.

The Reds conceded twice before Mamadou Thiam and Kieffer Moore drew them level.  Stendel said: “The players are very dissatisfied in the dressing room because we wanted to win this game. If we had played the first half with a normal performance, we would have won the game. We wanted three points but we have one point which is better than nothing.

“Oxford were very aggressive, sometimes too much, but we were ready for that. We did not play well. But the referee could have been stronger.  The morale and mentality after 2-0 was good and we take this mentality forward to Scunthorpe.”

Stendel was disappointed with the marking for the opener then the mix-up between Adam Davies and Liam Lindsay which led to the second goal but said he thought Jamie Mackie fouled the goalkeeper.

“The goals we conceded were too easy for Oxford. We did not defend the set pieces well like for the first goal. We told the players they have to focus in those situations but not all the players understood that.

“For the second goal, it was not really a good decision from Liam and Davo but I also thought it was a 100 per cent foul. It is a foul in every league and every country.”

Stendel dropped 17-goal top-scorer Moore for central midfielder Kenny Dougall as he changed from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 before reversing that decision at half-time. He said: “After the game I can say it was not the right decision. But I know better after the game every time.”

Jacob Brown assisted both goals. Stendel said: “Jacob showed from the first moment what we expected from him. He fought for every duel and, in the end, he deserved two assists. It was a good performance and his self confidence gets higher every game. I am happy with him.”

Brown said: “We always want to win but, when you come back from 2-0 down, you can take a lot of positives. We have kept the unbeaten run going which gives us massive confidence going into the next game.

“I always thought we could come back. There have been a few games this season when we have been behind like Scunthorpe earlier in the season and Rochdale on Saturday.

“We always know that, if we keep fighting until the end, there is always a chance. We could have won it in the end but it wasn’t to be.

"In the first half I didn’t do much but I was happy to be involved in the game in the second half.”
