MARKET stalls will be converted into temporary bike racks for those wanting to cycle into town to watch Tour de Yorkshire pass through Barnsley.

Some of the stalls on the semi-open market will be used to create about 150 additional secure bike spaces in the town centre, which will be available on Peel Square from 8am.

Matthew Mitchell, events and logistics manager at Barnsley Council, said it will give people an opportunity to get into the spirit of things and in to town to watch the race.

A specialist market will be running, highlighting the many opportunities to get involved in sport, particularly in cycling, across the borough.
