A WARM homes campaign has been launched by the council to tackle fuel poverty and excess winter deaths.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of fuel poverty and highlights some of the solutions available in Barnsley for people who are struggling to heat their homes over the winter period.

Figures show that in 2014, which is the latest data available for Barnsley, there were 11,505 households living in fuel poverty - with 204 deaths linked directly to cold weather.

Cabinet spokesman Coun Roy Miller said that ‘isn’t acceptable’ and the council is determined to tackle fuel poverty in the borough.
