A ROW has broken out between anglers and the council after the authority blocked off an access at Worsbrough reservoir used by disabled fishermen.

The Barnsley and District Amalgamated Angling Association is furious that concrete posts have been put up preventing access to the entrance to the reservoir, off Haverlands Lane, Ward Green, that leads to a small parking area used by disabled anglers.

Geoff Poucher, acting president of the association, said the car park has been in use for best part of 20 years and allows direct access to a purpose-built disabled fishing platform at the reservoir waters - about 20 yards away.

Without it, Geoff said disabled anglers face a quarter-of-a-mile uphill trek from the main car park, off Park Road that serves the mill and country park, to the same fishing platform.

A spokesman for Fish Legal said: “The council’s decision will be subject to challenge now but the form of that challenge I cannot comment on yet.”
