AN ELDERLY man was burgled in Wath.

Police have launched an investigation after a 70-year-old man was targeted in his home on New Winterwell in the village last Friday.

At around 4pm a man knocked on the pensioner’s door and said he was lost, asking to use the telephone.

The householder let him in when he then asked for a phonebook.

While the pensioner left to find his phonebook, the suspect searched the property for money and valuables.

The pensioner discovered him in his bedroom and confronted him, prompting the suspect to run away. Money and jewellery with sentimental value was taken in the burglary.

The suspect is described as being white, around 5ft 8in, slim and with dark brown hair.

He is believed to have spoken with a local accent and was clean shaven, wearing a black coat, dark bottoms and dark gloves.
