THIS stunning image of an historic steam train was captured by a Chronicle reader as it passed through Barnsley Interchange on Saturday.

Stephen Wright, of Carlton, sent in the dramatic image showing the Tornado which was part way through a tour of the north of England.

The journey was made in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the locomotive first moving under its own power following its restoration.

Passengers set off from Darlington before passing through a number of stations, including Barnsley, before making their way to their final destination of Chester.

The journey was made possible by The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, a registered charity that has restored the Tornado and fully equipped it for today’s mainline.

All of the profits made went towards maintaining the Tornado and keeping it on the main line for many years to come.
