Lewin Nyatanga says visiting teams using defensive tactics is the reason for Barnsley's poor home form, not the pressure of playing at Oakwell.

The Reds have equalled their worst home start to the season in 40 years and have conceded the most goals on their own turf in the entire Football League.

"I don't feel under pressure. It's definitely not a pressure thing," Nyatanga told the Chronicle after scoring in the 1-1 home draw with Doncaster on Tuesday.

"Our fans are so good and they get behind us. It's more a case of teams sitting back and hitting us on the counter-attack. All the players enjoy playing at home and want to do well for the fans.  I'm sure we will get better at home."

Nyatanga, 26, admits Barnsley's performances in the last three matches have been disappointing, following a run of three wins in a row. The defender said: "We seem to have a few good games then a few not so good games. We don't want to be like that, we want to be consistently good, obviously.  The table is so tight and we're not even at Christmas yet. You just have to go on a run of wins but we need consistency if we're going to do that.

"We're a young team which means we will be inconsistent. But the young players have got so much talent and they work so hard. All of a sudden it will just click.  Even if we don't go up this season then we will be in a much better position for next season."

Welsh international Nyatanga's sixth-minute opener on Tuesday was his first goal for Barnsley since a 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic in April 2008 during one of three loan spells from Derby. "Hopefully it's the first of many because I want a lot more goals this season. I have been working really hard in training and, if you do that, the chances will come. The top centre-halfs get goals so it's great to add that to your game."
