COUNCILLORS have come up with a radical solution to tackle the blight of dog fouling - by rewarding responsible owners with a raffle ticket to win a prize.

The idea is being developed by the North East Area Council - which represents the Monk Bretton, Royston, Cudworth and the North East wards - in a bid to keep the streets the clean.

Last year more than 450 dog fouling fines were dished out to irresponsible owners across the borough and a further 140 fines have been issued up to June this year.

The problem has prompted North East Area councillors to pilot a dog fouling project where raffle tickets would be given to people seen picking up after dogs to enter them into a monthly prize draw.
