A GROUP of school mums have got their heads together to raise money for a little girl who has been diagnosed with blood cancer.

Five-year-old Aliza Swift, of Beaumont Avenue, Barnsley, was initially treated at her local doctor’s surgery for chest and water infections.

She was diagnosed with leukaemia after antibiotics didn’t work and she was taken to Barnsley Hospital for a blood test, and then transferred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Her mum Zoe Swift, 44, last week told of the shock of her daughter’s diagnosis.

Now, a group of 24 mums whose children go to Shawlands Primary with Aliza, have raised £3,000.

Corinne Skelton, 33, of Clarendon Street, Barnsley, is one of the mums.

Her son Theo goes to school with Aliza, and she has told him Aliza has got poorly blood and she can’t see Theo until she is better.

Corinne said: “It was just a drive between us all, we all felt so helpless. Shawlands is such a community school, and we wanted to give something to Zoe and Aliza.

“It’s not just that she goes to school with our children, we help each other out.

“Aliza is very popular, she’s a bright, bubbly little girl.”

The mums set up a fundraising page which has had donations totalling almost £2,000.

They organised a raffle with local businesses and sold 1,500 tickets.

They are now organising Aliza’s Garden Party, which will be held on September 23, between 12pm and 4pm at Shawlands Primary.

They want people to get involved, and are looking for bands to perform and people to donate raffle prizes.

The mums have set up a group called The Aliza Team, which has its own webpage on Facebook. They are now raising money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital, where Aliza was diagnosed and is being treated.
