Chris Dagnall still has a future with Barnsley despite being one of six players to leave the club on loan this week.

The striker – who has netted six goals in 53 Championship games for the Reds – joined League One Coventry City yesterday.

Dagnall, whose appearance at Millwall on Saturday was his first since September, posted on Twitter yesterday: "Glad to have signed for Coventry till Jan 4th. Looking forward to some game time!!"

Manager David Flitcroft said: "Initially it's not with a view to a permanent move.  Every player has got a future here if they are contracted.  Daggers has not really played for 12 weeks and he's the hungriest player you'll ever meet.

"His work ethic and industry's incredible. He just needs to get in a rhythm and get a spring back in his step. I have chosen Chris O'Grady, Marcus Pedersen and Jason Scotland ahead of him and we will have Danny Rose back soon who I want on the bench."

Tomorrow Dagnall will come up against Dale Jennings, a £250,000 summer signing from Bayern Munich, who joined League One side MK Dons until January yesterday, subject to confirmation from the Football League.

Flitcroft considered loaning out defender Lewin Nyatanga while striker John Cofie almost joined Conference side Alfreton.

Wade Joyce, who signed a six-month contract in the summer, has signed for League One Oldham for a month with a view to a permanent deal. Sam Patterson has joined Conference side Halifax Town until January 5, Brad Abbott is at Conference North side Harrogate until January 3 and McCauley Shillito will spend a month with Frickley Athletic in the EvoStick Premier League.

There has been a clearing out of the young players at Oakwell recently with Jake Scott and Dennis Knight being released. Irish striker Daryl Horgan will be invited back for a second trial.
