A BARNSLEY butcher has challenged a celebrity chef to cook a Barnsley chop on a BBC TV show. Market butcher David Barker suggested the Beeb try a Beautiful Barnsley Chop when they came calling for something a bit special for a top celebrity chef to cook on his show.
David, 64, who has traded in the meat market for 24 years, supplied Michelin starred chef Tom Kerridge with the chop - and the chef was chuffed to bits.
Said David: "Tom and the crew were ever so good. They were here at least three hours what with retakes but they didn't get in the way, well not much.
"We were really busy, it's just as well that Tom asked to cut the chop himself."
The show - Tom Kerridge's Best Ever Dishes - sees the chef seeking out Britain's finest locally sourced produce.
"Tom was very interested to hear about the history of the chop which was first offered down the market by Albert Hirst and served at Brooklands hotel."
The programme airs on BBC2 tonight at 9pm.
