A WOMAN claims she is being put in danger because she has to use her electric wheelchair on the road when she goes to the GP surgery in Lundwood, because of a lack of dropped kerbs.

Jackie Clarke, 57, of Hoyle Mill Road, Stairfoot, has a range of health problems including osteoporosis, curvature of the spine, arthritis and asthma.

She uses an electric wheelchair to get about, but has trouble getting on and off the pavement.

She says she can get on the pavement near the bridge on Oaks Lane, but there are no dropped kerbs allowing her to get off. Instead, she has to use the road and goes down Tank Row to the junction to get back on the pavement.

Jackie said: “I have had this problem since I moved here about four years ago. But they are resurfacing the road on Tank Row. I took a friend to the doctors and they were doing the tarmacadam, but they haven’t dropped the kerbs. People in wheelchairs and mobility scooters still can’t access the pavement. We have to go on the road which is scary to say the least.”
