HERE they are - the Proud of Barnsley class of 2017.

The winners were unveiled at a glitzy ceremony, which has been hailed as the biggest and best yet.

The calibre of shortlisted finalists was particularly high this year, with one category containing four finalists.

The judges faced the unenviable task of selecting the winners, and in some cases struggled to make a decision until the last minute.

The ceremony was once again hosted by former BBC Look North presenter Christa Ackroyd and radio DJ Stephanie Hirst, who announced the winners of all 15 categories.

There were also two special awards which were a complete surprise to the recipients.

Len Collett, chairman of Age UK Barnsley received the Mayor of Barnsley award which was presented by the Mayor Coun Jeff Ennis, and Julie Foster, the owner of Jay Bee Theatre School, received the Proud of Barnsley Special Award. Julie has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She is just 56. See husband Peter Foster's moving tribute to her HERE
