HARRY Rix was hopping with delight at the results of his charity Easter egg collection.

The five-year-old, of Wilson Street, Wombwell, wanted to collect as many Easter eggs and treats as possible to give out to the homeless.

And charitable members of the public have helped Harry’s dream come true, with 83 items dropped off to charity Help For Barnsley Homeless to be given out to those in need.

The eggs have been collected through donations to his home, his school High View Primary Learning Centre and the Bolthole Cafe on Dovecliffe Road in Wombwell.

Mum Chelsea Cunliffe said the collection has been a great achievement for Harry, who is autistic.

Chelsea said: “All together we have 83 items and we have 69 individual eggs. If you separated up all the multipacks of Creme Eggs, cakes and the like we would easily have more than 100 things.

“I asked him what he thought to it and he said he was proud and asked ‘are you proud of me mummy?’ I said I was very proud. He has loved it.

“The support from people and the Bolthole Cafe has been fantastic. They had a basket out on the counter for him and gave him a free ice cream to say thank you for what he has done, which he was delighted with.

“We haven’t just had Easter eggs too. We did some home rounds picking things up and we were given a bag of clothes to take in. And one lady gave Harry a cheque for £5 towards the appeal.

“We know the homeless are in need of so much more, but Harry wanted to give them a bit of a treat.”
