THE latest addition to the Barnsley Youth Choir family - the junior choir announced last week - is already full.

All 50 places have been filled ahead of the first rehearsal next Friday.

It’s open to children who have started school, aged from four to seven. Previously children could not join the BYC set up until they were seven, which is the minimum age of the Children’s Choir.

BYC musical director Mat Wright said: “The choir will have a professional accompanist, an assistant director and a number of members of the BYC Senior Choir who will act as mentors.

“We want to invest in the future and give these children the best start possible. We want them to take part in some exciting projects in the future and potentially some big concerts, but there’s no pressure in the short term.

“Our focus is about galvanising them as a choir and providing them with an activity that they love doing.

“It’s really exciting.”
