A LOCAL band will take to the pitch at Oakwell and perform live in front of thousands of football fans - becoming the first musical act to do so.

Indie rock band Rosadocs will perform on the Oakwell pitch ahead of next Tuesday’s match against Sunderland, and drummer and Barnsley season ticket holder Callum Raynor said it was ‘an honour’ to be asked to do so.

“We released our single and initially just sent it to the club asking them if they could play it over the PA system,” Callum said.

“We got some good feedback, everyone in the office liked it, and the head of marketing got back to us to ask if we wanted to play.

“We were just buzzing when we were told we were being played before games.

“It seems like the club’s new owners want to put on another experience for the fans who turn up to every game.”

While the band’s members are all from different areas of Yorkshire and the Midlands, Callum is the Barnsley lad of the group and a huge Reds fan.

Callum, 21, from Pontefract Road, Lundwood, said: “It will be really strange, I’m used to being sat in the stands but this time I’m going to be playing drums next to the players.

“We absolutely can’t wait.

“There could be around 14,000 people watching us, which for a young band like us is something we don’t get many opportunities to do.”

The band, who take influence from The Beatles and 60s rock and roll as well as from their contemporaries, are planned to play in front of the dug-outs as part of the pre-match entertainment.

The band was formed in 2017, and in their two years, they have already sold out Sheffield venue The Leadmill, and will headline their own show at the O2 Academy on May 18 after supporting Bolton-upon-Dearne band The Sherlocks there last year.

Rob Zuk, finance and operations director at Barnsley FC, said: “This is a first for us and as a club, we’re delighted to add an element to the match day experience.

“I hope this announcement will be well received by supporters and they enjoy the live performance on the evening.”
