MORE than 100 staff members at a Barnsley building firm have been trained to deliver lifesaving CPR thanks to one dedicated member of staff.

Kay Parker-Oakley, the accountant manager at Kier Barnsley, trained her 100th member of staff at the company last Friday during a CPR event while trying to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

On the day the Mayor of Barnsley Coun Steve Green attended and learnt how to deliver CPR to someone suffering a cardiac arrest.

“I’ve been a CPR trainer since last December and I’ve been trying to fit in some day sessions every month,” said Kay.

“I opened up my training to partners and clients and I’ve done it for family and friends too.

“Not only have we trained our 100th person at Kier Barnsley but we have also been raising money for the British Heart Foundation by doing a sponsored cycle all day, a raffle, games, a dress down day and we have raised more than £1,000 this afternoon.”

The fundraising event also helped Kier Barnsley to reach its milestone of donating £20,000 to charitable causes, including: Barnsley Hospice, BIADS, British Heart Foundation, Proud of Barnsley, RSPB Old Moor nature reserve, Picnic in the Park and Barnsley Animal Charity Rescue.
