FUTURE development in Monk Bretton needs to be carefully managed to ensure it can cope, a councillor has said.
There is concern from locals the village will become gridlocked and ‘overpopulated’ if two major housing sites earmarked for housing in Barnsley Council’s Local Plan - which aims to guide all development in the borough up to 2033 - come to fruition.
A new estate of 20-plus properties is nearing completion at Lamb Lane, on the site of the former school and library, and work is underway on 95 houses to form a new estate by Bellway Homes, off Cross Street.
