THERE is a free dog micro chipping event in Royston this month, organised by Barnsley Council and the Dogs Trust.

The free event is being held in the pavilion at Royston park, Midland Road, between 11am and 3pm on July 29, and will provide owners with a permanent method of identifying their dog.

It will become compulsory in 2016 to have your dog microchipped.

For more information about the event contact Barnsley Council's dog warden on 773743.
