A FORMER Penistone Grammar School business manager took on the Great Wall of China to raise more than £3,600 for the hospital which is treating her granddaughter.

Christine Jagger, who worked at the school for 30 years before retirement in 2012, trekked up to 20km a day along the world-famous landmark.

The 60-year-old was raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital in London where eight-year-old Lily has undergone operations after being born without a bladder.

"It was a fantastic experience but it wasn't easy," said Christine, who lives off Mossley Road, Penistone. "We walked on parts of the wall which had been renovated but it was really, really steep. Other parts we did hadn't been renovated and were really, really old where tourists were not allowed."
