Barnsley's young midfielder Brad Abbott has joined Conference club Chester on loan for an initial month.

The 20-year-old has played eight times for the Reds this campaign, including a start against Chester in the goalless FA Cup draw at Oakwell in December.

But Abbott has seemingly dropped behind fellow academy product Paul Digby as well as new signings Ben Pearson and Josh Scowen and the likes of Luke Berry and Conor Hourihane in the pecking order.

He initially signed a six-month deal in the summer but impressed so much in pre-season that he earned a deal until the summer of 2016.

The Reds have already loaned striker Rhys Oates to Chester earlier in the season.
