THREE enterprising children spent their summer holiday raising money for Barnsley Hospice.

Twins Sarah and Jack Mara, aged nine, and 10-year-old Lillian Roughneen came up with the idea of organising a street fair to raise funds for the hospice.

The three friends washed cars to raise money to buy sweets to sell, produced flyers which they put on lampposts and through neighbours postboxes and baked cakes to sell.

On the day of the street fair they had a range of stalls and activities for people to get involved in including name the teddy, a tombola, pick and mix, cake sale, a lucky dip and raffle all costing 50p or less.

Friends and neighbours came out to support them and helped the three friends raise £100.

Sam Silverwood, Barnsley Hospice fundraiser, said: "We are very grateful for the hard work Sarah, Jack and Lillian have put in to the street fair. It is fantastic to see them doing something so positive with their time and energy.

"The money they have raised could pay for a bereavement or counselling session for a child who has had a parent or relative at the hospice, so their donation can make a real difference to other children as well as to patients."
