THIS is the striking futuristic design of the new £4.8m library which will be built in Barnsley town centre.

Designed to act as a giant beacon, the idea is that the library will have transparent glazed walls that will emit light all night long, to illuminate the new public square that will be created as part of the town centre's £50m redevelopment.

A large screen will be incorporated along one side of the glass wall of the building so sporting and cultural events can be watched by thousands in the town square which will be created in front of the new library.
