A CUDWORTH man has been named and shamed - and fined more than £700 - for fly-tipping in Shafton.

Mark Nicholls, of Mallory Way, was found guilty after the case was brought to Barnsley Magistrates’ Court by the council’s enforcement team.

The 28-year-old had been paid £100 by an unsuspecting resident to dispose of his rubbish at an official site but the waste, which included old furniture, internal doors and carpets, was thrown into a field off Southgate.

The court heard that he had originally pleaded not guilty and did not attend his trial where he was found guilty, which meant a warrant for his arrest was issued in order for him to be sentenced and he was subsequently brought before the court.

Nicholls was given a £300 fine, £400 prosecution costs and a victim surcharge of £30, totalling £730.
