ANTI-FRACKING campaigners are holding a demonstration outside the Barclays Bank branch in Barnsley tomorrow in protest at the bank’s ties with the fracking industry.

Barclays owns a majority stake of 97 per cent in Third Energy, the firm granted planning permission to frack near the North Yorkshire village of Kirby Misperton.

A spokesman for the No Fracking in Barnsley campaign said: “Are Barclay’s customers happy to be associated with a bank that invests in an industry that will bring misery, noise, water and air pollution to our beautiful Yorkshire countryside? The threat that North Yorkshire is facing today, is the same threat that fracking will bring to South Yorkshire tomorrow.

“We ask Barclay’s customers to take part by switching their accounts to more ethical banks and by boycotting all events and organisations sponsored by Barclays, until they dispose of their stake Third Energy.”
